Summer school "Cities cultural heritage and digital humanities"

The International Summer School — Cities, Cultural Heritage and Digital Humanities — focuses on Digital Humanities Methodologies for Cultural Heritage with the aim of highlighting cities in this celebratory European Year of Cultural Heritage.

The Summer School is in its 2nd edition, part of the International Joint Project on Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage developed by POLITO and UCLA. The 2018 program is co-organized by the Politecnico di Torino (POLITO), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris (EHESS), and the Italian Association of Urban History (AISU). The program will involve students in an intensive interdisciplinary research-training program on digital approaches to cities as physical, architectural, economic, political and social spaces, in addition to their history and ongoing impact.
This intensive training program deals with spatial and temporal dynamics linked to present urban spaces and built environments. It aims to enhance the understanding of urban heritage in the context of urban layers. It will center on changes in districts, streets, buildings, and public spaces at different historical moments, as well as on the intersecting relationships with activities, purposes, professions, and social groups of different origins. The objective of the 2018 Summer School is to provide participants with a broad understanding of the necessary interaction between different forms of knowledge and practice within urban history, as well as introduce digital skills. We will introduce two different approaches:
(i) how to construct, design and present an articulated research project; and (ii) how to develop it in a multidisciplinary, interactive and international contexts.
Teaching and practice for both include how to improve research and output by using digital methodologies.
