Team Students

The team was founded in the academic year 2015/2016 as a response to a particularly felt need within the academic context of an interdisciplinary group of students, namely experiencing the "learning by doing" approach before entering the employment world. The goal of the project is recovering social spaces in the Turin area using self-building techniques and natural materials, generating multiple benefits, firstly, the opportunity for students to learn various construction techniques with a practical approach; but also, giving back to the city common spaces for the community. During the first two years, the team worked for the restauration of the Red Room in the Cecchi Point Hub. The requalification started with a co-design phase involving students, professors, external experts, associations within Cecchi Point and users, favoring a bottom-up architectural approach and the inclusion of students and citizens in the transformation of the city, encouraging the sense of community. Natural materials such as raw earth, wood, hemp, straw and lime were used in the building site; allowing the experimental verification of various techniques aimed at simplifying the construction process and introducing the advantages of these solutions also in urban areas. A succession method chosen within the team allows new students from year to year to guide new projects and construction sites eligible to the main objectives, with the support of ex-students of La Termitière, recently established as a formal nonprofit association, "Accademia nel Cantiere". During 2020 the team will work in the San Salvario district, to carry out the recovery of the Music Room of the ASAI association, which has been a protagonist for years in the social and cultural life of the neighborhood.
