Grazia Brunetta, Architect, PhD in Spatial Planning, Full Professor of Urban and Regional Planning - Politecnico di Torino, DIST - Interuniversity Department of Regional and Urban Studies and Planning.
She is Coordinator of the Interdepartmental Centre Responsible Risk Resilience Centre, R3C, Politecnico di Torino, where she is the scientific responsible of an interdisciplinary research team that aims to enhance cities forward resilience in planning and policy (2020 on going). She is the scientific coordinator of 2nd level specialising master programme in Methods and techniques for the governance of resilient territories. Towards integrated risk management, Politecnico di Torino (2021 on going). She is member of the Expert committee of the Intensive Training on Urban Resilience organized by University of Southern Denmark, Aalborg University, and Blox Hub Copenhagen (2019 on going). She is member of the Scientific Committee of Fondazione CARIPLO project “F2C Strategia Clima” (2021-today).
Her main research activities show a deep and constant involvement in the field of town and regional planning, with a particular focus on the innovation in the theories, methodologies and approaches for spatial planning, in both research and academic teaching activity. She has twenty-five years of national and international experience in research, capacity-building and education. The scientific responsibility of research projects has been performed constantly since the end of the Eighties.
The main interests of her research dealing with the following topics: (i) institutional innovation in urban, regional and environmental planning; (ii) evaluation methodologies in spatial planning; (iii) urban resilience in planning theory; (iv) territorial resilience for spatial planning; (v) climate risk and adaption strategies.
She has been scientific coordinator of a wide range of research programmes for territorial institutional agencies (Piedmont Region, River Basin Po Authority, Trento Region, Cariplo Foundation, City of Turin), and she has co-coordinated of some funded European projects (2018-2019 Interreg project MOLOC – Low Carbon Urban Morphologies). Since 2021, She has been the coordinator of the interuniversity research group SDU-POLITO - Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030), Programme led by UNDRR in strengthening the climate actions and disaster risk reduction (coordinator SDU). She has been scientific responsible of the interuniversity research PROGETTO RINASCITA CENTRO ITALIA. Nuovi sentieri di sviluppo per l’appennino centrale interessato dal sisma del 2016 (coordinator: UNICAM, 2020-2022).
She has developed significant technical and organizational skills in the coordination of multidisciplinary research teams. From 2002 to 2005, she was nominated as a member in the board of the “Senior researcher team of the Piedmont Regional Evaluation Staff on the Public Policies”. In 2014, she was nominated as a member of the “Scientific Committee for Regional Development and Institutional Innovation in Public Policy” of the Trento Regional Authority. Since 2015, she has been a member of the International Association Recycling Cities – RECNET, and the scientific coordinator of the international working group Risk Management and Adaptation of the RESURBE Programme - Urban Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation. She has been the scientific responsible for the Inter-university project Osservatorio Pratiche Resilienza financed by Cariplo Foundation (Politecnico Torino and Politecnico di Milano, 2014-2018). Since 2018, as the project manager of the R3C, she has been involved in a wide range of research clusters on (i) planning the resilient city; (ii) measuring vulenraibility for urban resilience.
Her research results have been collected in more than 250 national and international publications and as invited speaker and guest at national and international conferences.
