How can we think and build a city in which good life is possible without economic growth? Sustainability is one of the big contemporary challenges and cities play an important role in it. But is sustainability compatible with economic growth? Degrowth debates assert that it is not, as the decoupling between economic growth and ecological impacts remains a delusion in empirical research. But while in sustainable development scenarios cities often are celebrated as places of virtue, innovation and green economy, what is their role in a degrowth transformation?
