INFRASTRUCTURES AND CITIES. RESEARCH PERSPECTIVES AND FORMS OF INQUIRY

DIST - Castello del Valentino, Viale Mattioli 39, Torino

International seminar coordinated and organised by Olivier Coutard (Université Gustave Eiffel – LATTS), Daniel Florentin (Mines ParisTech - PSL/ISIGE), Leonardo Ramondetti (Politecnico di Torino – DIST), and Agostino Strina (Politecnico di Torino – FULL – DIST)

The seminar hosts anthropologists, architects, economists, engineers, ethnographers, geographers, and urban planners from more than thirty universities worldwide to discuss their ongoing research and nourish academic debates on the relationship between infrastructures and cities. The themes are:

- Current trends and counter-trends in the commoning of infrastructures;
- The many faces of contemporary infrastructuration;
- Infrastructural violence on spaces, societies and bodies;
- The infrastructurocene and its discontents.

By discussing these topics through different methods and perspectives, the seminar sheds light on the social properties and practices related to infrastructure; the tensions in infrastructure development, governance, and use; and the shifting of infrastructure imaginaries, organizations, and management principles. The outcomes will be collected in the Handbook on Infrastructures and Cities edited by Olivier Coutard and Daniel Florentin (Edward Elgar, 2023).
