The series of interventions and collective conversations organized by the Beyond Inhabitation Lab that explore how ideas of dwelling are reinvented through urban struggles in different geographical areas.

MARTIAL MATTERS: RACE, ENVIRONMENT, AND SURPLUS IN THE SUBURB

Speaker: Emma Shaw Crane, Assistant Professor of Urban and Environmental Studies at Loyola Marymount University. She researches and teaches on race, environment, and U.S. empire. Her writing has appeared in Environment and Planning D, Public Culture, and Antipode. She received her PhD in American Studies from New York University. Emma’s work is grounded in the principles and practices of research justice, and she writes with coalitions fighting migrant detention in South Florida. She grew up in Santa Rosa, California, and lives in Los Angeles.
