The Berenike Buddha. Early Buddhism and Indian Trade Diaspora in the Red Sea (Egypt)

Excavations on the Red Seashore of Egypt at Berenike have yielded ample evidence for trade between Rome and India, but also have shown that Indian merchants spent considerable time in Egypt and may have had the initiative in this long-distance trade.
