Vernacular architecture of the 21st century - Revitalisation and local development of marginal areas | Speaker: Onishi Maki

The lecture is part of a Joint Research between Japan and Italy (framed in the Polito Japan Hub) on the topics: “Vernacular architecture of the 21st century” and “Revitalisation and local development of marginal areas”.


PROGRAMME

Speaker:
Onishi Maki (Yokohama National University, o+h), Short Term Visiting Professor at DIST
Community Architecture. Shelter Inclusive Place Copal, Good Job! Center KASHIBA, and Taga Community Center

The lecture will focus on some international awarded project of onishi maki+hyakuda yuki/o+h studio:
Shelter Inclusive Place Copal (Yamagata, 2022): a playground open to all children harmoniously integrated in a countryside area and its mountains
Good Job! Center KASHIBA (Nara, 2016): a centre for operation and activities for a civic organization that, in collaboration with people with disabilities, aims to create new jobs that transcend the borders between art, design, and business.
Taga Community Center (Shiga, 2019): a community centre made of local timber, which appearance echoes the nearby mountain range and is inspired by a nearby old house, incorporating traditional wisdom and techniques.
