Things, Soil, Space: Ségou, Mali
The exhibition is curated by Elvira Pietrobon (Le Lac de Lassa, ISH (ML), IUAV (IT).
In many homes in Mali, everyday objects are placed and used close to the ground. Cooking, eating, working and resting often unfold at this level, shaping relations between bodies, gestures and materials.
Visitors encounter everyday objects presented in their singular forms. Suspended before chalk floor plans drawn on black cotton cloth, they appear against a background that opens the space of the house in several dimensions.
The drawings and photographs refer to six houses in Ségou, both in the city and in the village, llnking urban and rural ways of inhabiting. Together, objects, drawn walls and images reveal relations that shape domestic space and offer a glimpse into the aesthetics of contemporary living spaces in southern Mali.
The exhibition is organized by Antonio di Campli and Camilla Rondot
